Darcy & Me

A family portrait of Dr. Xiong, Brandon, and Darcy.
Who i am

Dr. X

Hi, I’m Pong Xiong — an integrative psychiatrist passionate about providing thoughtful, culturally attuned mental health care. I was raised in a small rural town in California, where I practiced Shamanism, Eastern medicine, and holistic healing alongside my family. Those early experiences shaped how I see healing: as a process that honors the mind, body, spirit, and community.

After losing my brother, I witnessed how cultural gaps in the healthcare system can leave people feeling invisible. That loss deepened my commitment to becoming a psychiatrist who bridges worlds — combining the best of Western psychiatry, holistic medicine, and cultural understanding.

I worked with underserved communities throughout medical school before completing my psychiatry residency in Washington, where I developed an interest in integrative psychiatry and psychodynamic psychopharmacology—approaches that go beyond symptoms to treat the whole person. Life eventually brought me to North Carolina, where my husband (a proud Tar Heels alumni) and I now call home.

Outside of work, I love reading thrillers, watching figure skating, and woodworking—hobbies that keep me grounded and creatively inspired. Whether I’m building furniture or helping a patient heal, I’m drawn to understanding how different pieces come together to make something whole.

Mr. Darcy

My practice is named after Mr. Darcy — my mini Bernedoodle and resident therapist-in-training. He has an incredible intuition, often curling up beside me during tough moments, as if reminding me to slow down and breathe. That same spirit of presence and emotional attunement is something I bring into my work as a psychiatrist.

Mr. Darcy (named after the iconic Pride & Prejudice character) is a mix of charm and stubbornness. He’s obsessed with squeaky toys, rolling in the snow, and sticking his head out the car window in any weather. His joy, sensitivity, and resilience are constant reminders of the kind of care I hope to offer: grounded, warm, and always present.
