Frequently asked questions

What is a telehealth psychiatrist?

A telehealth psychiatrist provides mental health care through secure video sessions. This allows you to receive therapy and medication management from the comfort of your home, with the same level of clinical attention as in-person care. I offer telepsychiatry to adults across North Carolina.

Is a psychiatrist a doctor?
What is the difference between a psychiatrist and a therapist?

A psychiatrist is a licensed medical doctor (MD or DO) who can prescribe medication, provide psychiatric evaluations, and also offer therapy. A therapist may be a psychologist, counselor, or social worker who provides talk therapy but does not prescribe medication.

Can a psychiatrist prescribe medication?
Do psychiatrists do therapy?

Yes. Many psychiatrists, including myself, offer both psychotherapy and medication management. I integrate evidence-based medications and therapy modalities like CBT, ACT, and psychodynamic psychotherapy into personalized treatment plans.

What is integrative psychiatry?

Integrative psychiatry redefines healthcare by focusing on health and healing, not just symptom control. It considers the connection between mind, body, spirit, and community—while honoring your cultural identity, values, and lifestyle. If you've been searching for integrative medicine doctors near you or a complementary and alternative medicine approach to mental health, integrative psychiatry offers a holistic and patient-centered path.

What is Intensive Short-Term Dynamic Psychotherapy (ISTDP)?

ISTDP helps uncover and resolve unconscious emotional defenses. It is highly effective for anxiety, depression, trauma, and relationship issues, often creating meaningful change more quickly than traditional talk therapy.

What age groups do you work with?

I work with adults between the ages of 25-60.

Where do you see patients?

I offer secure telehealth psychiatry throughout North Carolina. Virtual sessions allow you to connect from the comfort of your home, save travel time, and fit appointments more easily into your schedule—whether you're balancing work, family, or living in a remote area.

What state are you licensed in?

I am licensed to practice in North Carolina and can only provide care to patients who are physically located within the state. If you are outside of North Carolina, you would need to be present in the state at the time of your appointment to receive services.

Do you accept insurance?

‍I am an out-of-network psychiatrist and do not bill insurance companies directly. This private practice model allows for more personalized care without the restrictions of in-network systems. If you have Aetna health insurance, BCBS health insurance, or another private health insurance plan, you may qualify for partial reimbursement.

What is out-of-network insurance?

Being out-of-network means I don’t have a contract with your insurance provider. However, many marketplace health insurance and private health insurance plans offer out-of-network mental health benefits.

How do I get insurance to cover out-of-network psychiatric care?

To request reimbursement:

- Contact your insurance and ask about out-of-network benefits for psychiatry or mental health services
- Ask about deductibles and reimbursement rates
- Submit a superbill (provided after each session) for review

I recommend verifying benefits directly with your insurance plan.
